AMANDA AUGUSTINE-FEE
OWNER & COACH
Born and Raised as a horse-crazy kid in Richmond, BC, Amanda would literally do anything - from mucking barns all day to begging the neighbours - just to get a chance to be near them. At the ripe old age of 10, after reading every book possible on horse care, she wrote her parents an essay on the how’s - in extreme detail - of getting a pony and how getting said pony would change their lives. Well, it worked. Shortly before her next birthday, the search was on, and it was short. But rather than an appropriate beginner pony, Amanda and her Dad returned with Sunny (Sundancer AA), a half-starved, sickly, beaten horse on deaths door. This began her lifelong passion for horses and yes it changed their lives! After several months of rehab, where a great vet and those horse care books came in very useful, Sunny blossomed into a great all round horse.
Starting in the western world, Sunny and Amanda won many western pleasure classes and more than their fair share of barrel races. In her mid-teens they transitioned over to eventing and jumpers, where they enjoyed a successful career, attending two Western Canada Games and worked their way up to prelim in eventing before Sunny’s retirement.
After Sunny, Amanda earned her horesy way as a working student under the amazing tutelage of the equitation master, Lindy Townley. Let me tell you, at the beginning, Lindy was not so keen on the seat of your pants, barrel racing, eventing ways! But with a lot of time and hard work on both their sides, Amanda learned everything from the care and attention needed to create a winning mount, to the skills needed to be a quieter more effective rider. Amanda will be forever grateful for the experiences, lessons learned and the ultimate gift - her amazing mare, Emma 11.
After taking a break from riding to attend Kwantlen University to study Business and Marketing, Amanda returned to the ring as an adult amateur. She specialized in the hunters and medals, riding with Gray Brewster until her career took her to Edmonton, Alberta and then on to Calgary where Double “A” Farm was established in 2003.
Believing that no equestrian is ever done learning, Amanda worked closely with Lorrie Jamieson and the amazing team at Klondike Victory Farms for several years. She currently continues to grow her own skills, working with few great professionals and attending many workshops and clinics. Amanda is a Registered Equine Canada coach. In addition, Amanda studied, attended and completed the US based Certified Horsemanship Association coaching certification, becoming a level 4 (highest level) English and Level 2 Western Coach.
Amanda’s love of the sport goes beyond the ring, as she shares her passion and approach with others through coaching and training. Having been a horse crazy kid, working student and an overworked professional juggling horses and a career, Amanda understands that everyone has different goals. Her approach combines all of this to tailor a program for each rider as an individual. Above all, she strongly believes that the horses’ well-being comes first - a value that she instills into all of those who ride with her. Our happy, healthy, well-mannered, greet-you-at-the-gate horses are proof of her excellent care and horsemanship. So, whether you are a hardworking professional looking for a fun escape, or a motivated competitive individual with goals and aspirations to climb the ranks, the team at Double “A” is here to welcome you and cheer you on.
